The origin of white sage and smudging
Connoisseurs will immediately associate white sage with smudging. The ritual "smudging" originates from the Native Americans (Indians). They burn herbs in a refractory dish or shell, in order to make contact with the spiritual world. They do this, among other things, to chase away evil energies and to evoke good energies. In this way they cleaned their living space and persons from bad influences.
The ritual smudging has also found its way to Europe, although we usually do not evoke spirits. For us, smudging is often useful to expel unwanted smells and negativity from the house. You can also use smudging herbs (white sage) for meditation.
Rosemary; properties and smell
In earlier times it was said about rosemary that it had a comforting effect and that it could improve your mood. The pleasantly stimulating scent provides energy and can dissipate gloom. When it comes to the spicy aroma of rosemary, many people think of sun, summer and Mediterranean food. The herb is therefore often used in the kitchen. Both the taste and the smell are delicious. Together with white sage, rosemary is therefore one of the best herbs to free yourself and your environment from negativity and unwanted smells.
Smudge yourself with white sage and rosemary; how do you do that?
There are no set rules for smudging. There are, however, ways to perform your smudge ritual as optimally as possible. The most important thing you need is a fireproof dish or shell. Take a few sprigs of your rosemary and sage bunch and light them in the bowl. As soon as the herbs burn superficially, blow out the flame.
To expel negative energy or unwanted odors from your home, it is best to open a window.
Smudging tips
You can use a spring to spread the herbs well during burning. This way, the herbs can clean every corner of your living space.
Your smudging ritual is complete when you use a shell as a bowl. You can combine the four elements with a shell. The shell stands for water, combustion for fire, the smoke for air and the herbs for the element earth.
At Eastern Trading you can find different (abalone) shells for burning your herbs. In addition, you will find various beautiful springs in our wholesale, each of which has its own meaning.
