Starting Was Never My Problem

Since starting BySanaah in 2018, I have created waist bead collections, courses, memberships, podcasts, parties and more ideas than one woman could reasonably fit inside her Notes app.

Creating something new has never been my problem. Staying with one idea long enough to discover what it could become has been the real lesson. I used to believe that every new idea needed immediate attention. If something did not work quickly, I assumed I had chosen the wrong thing and started creating something else.

But creation is not only about beginning. Creation also asks you to continue when the excitement fades, improve what is not working and finish what you said you wanted to build. That is what I thought about while creating Ama.

Meet the Saturday Woman

Were you born on a Saturday? Then you probably have ideas everywhere. In notebooks. In voice notes. On random pieces of paper. Possibly in a WhatsApp conversation with yourself. You can look at something ordinary and immediately imagine what it could become.

You are resourceful, creative and capable of building something from almost nothing. But your greatest idea may not need another new beginning. It may simply need you to stay. Welcome to the Saturday Women’s Club, queen.

Your Ewe Saturday Name

Within Ewe-speaking communities, Ama is one of the traditional names given to a girl born on Saturday. A commonly used male Saturday name is Kwami. In Ghana, a day name can connect you to your birth, your family and the day your story began. For this collection, I paired the Ewe name Ama with the traditional Akan symbolism connected to Saturday: creation.

The personality reading on this page is my creative interpretation of that Saturday symbolism. Ama represents the woman who does not only dream about what could exist. She creates it.

Your Idea Needs More Than Inspiration

Inspiration is exciting. It buys the notebook, chooses the colours and announces the new plan. Creation is what happens afterwards. Creation returns to the idea when nobody is clapping yet. It makes another attempt. It changes the strategy without abandoning the dream.

Ama reminds you that you do not need a new vision every time progress feels slow. Sometimes the most creative thing you can do is finish. Your dream does not need you to be perfect. It needs you to remain present long enough to give it a real chance.

Why Orange and Peach Moonstone?

Orange represents creativity, confidence, joy and forward movement. It is warm, visible and full of life. I chose orange because creation should not feel like another heavy obligation on your to-do list. It can be playful. It can be imperfect. It can begin with curiosity.

Ama is finished with pieces of peach moonstone, a natural stone often associated with softness, intuition and new beginnings. Together, the orange beads and peach moonstone carry an important reminder:

Not everything you create has to come from pressure.

You are allowed to build slowly. You are allowed to trust your intuition. You are allowed to create from curiosity, joy and love instead of constantly trying to prove yourself. You do not need everybody’s permission. You do not need the entire plan. You need one idea, one decision and the willingness to continue.

Made for Saturday Women

Ama was created exclusively for women born on a Saturday. You do not have to be Ghanaian to wear her. You only need to respect the Ghanaian traditions behind her and possess the correct Saturday credentials. Consider Ama your official Saturday Women’s Club membership card. A colour-coded notebook and twelve unfinished projects are not required, but we both know they may already exist.

Her Details

Ama is a traditional tie-on waist bead handmade with glass beads, peach moonstone and cotton string. She has no clasp and no elastic.

Once tied, she remains around your waist while you sleep, shower, work and turn your ideas into something real.

As your body changes, Ama may sit higher, lower, tighter or looser. She helps you notice your body without judging or punishing it.

Every waist bead is handmade and unique. Natural stones may vary slightly in colour, shape and pattern. These differences are part of Ama’s character, not flaws.
